This is the story of Elio and Tony; a story of food, passion and will.

In 2001 Elio and Tony arrived in Amsterdam with a vision. They were driven by a strong desire for self fulfillment and a passion for cooking. They grew up in the Italian town of Angri in the vicinity of Naples and Salerno. They studied in a prestigious local school for Chefs where they both earned a diploma. Their initial training was done in a local restaurant. But they soon started to travel extensively in other regions of Italy and on their journey they learned the secrets of authentic and healthy cuisine from local chefs and from artisans who have been preparing pasta fresco and ravioli for decades. After they arrived in Amsterdam they both worked for some of the most acknowledged restaurants in town, learning how the Dutch society perceived food and dining. Elio and Tony were young but they knew what they wanted. Not even in their 30’s, armed with their natural instinct for entrepreneurship and their passion for cooking; they embarked on the business venture that is defining their lives.

Pomorosso was first inaugurated in December 2007. La Trattoria Pomorosso, is nothing short of a corner of Italy in Amsterdam. Elio and Tony have worked hard in order to ensure that the quality of their products reflect their passion for cooking. Over the years, Pomorosso has become a meeting point for locals and travelers alike. It is the perfect place to meet people, and share thoughts and a warm dinner, especially during the cold afternoons that are so typical of a winter in Amsterdam. In the summer, Pomorosso is the ideal location for those who enjoy pizza in the beautiful Vondelpark. Pomorosso’s cuisine reflects the best Italian culinary traditions but also a string of modern thoughts.

Considering the success of their first venture, Elio and Tonino decided to open a restaurant in the gorgeous neighbor De Pijp in Amsterdam. For this opportunity they were joined in forces by their long time friends Nicola and Francesca, sous-chef, and you maitre Claudio. Open since September, their new project has already satisfied the appetites of their customers and their ambitions. At the new Pomorosso, you can savor a variety of the most traditional Italian recipes or you can choose to discuss your culinary desires with Chef Elio. For those who are looking for the most authentic pizza, Pomorosso proposes the best that Amsterdam can offer. To ensure that their pizza is a light and traditional delicacy, Elio & Tony import most products from Italy. Pomorosso’s ravioli are handmade and filled with seasonal ingredients. For an extravagant experience, try grilling your own meat on a hot lava stone!

Italië en wijn zijn onlosmakelijk met elkaar verbonden. De gunstige ligging van de laars, het klimaat, de bodemgesteldheid en de talloze inheemse druivensoorten, maken van Italië een land dat bij uitstek geschikt is voor de wijnbouw. De boeiende historie van de Italiaanse wijnbouw vindt zijn oorsprong ver voor onze jaartelling. De oude Grieken doopten het zuiden van Italië om tot “Oenotria”, ofwel ‘land van wijn’. In het centrale deel van Italië waren de Etrusken buitengewoon actief en bekwaam in het maken van wijn. De Romeinen, tenslotte, brachten de wijnstokken via de havens van Ligurië verder Europa in. Aan deze en andere mediterrane volkeren danken de Italianen hun diepgewortelde liefde voor alles wat met eten en wijn te maken heeft. In de klassieke Oudheid werden al methoden ontwikkeld voor het maken en bewaren van wijn en voedsel. Maar vooral de versnippering van het land heeft ertoe bijgedragen dat de Italianen talloze bereidingswijzen kennen voor hun producten. Deze wijnkaart is met zorg samengesteld en bevat diverse wijnen uit diverse regio’s.”
